Frequently Asked Questions

The Type is Too Hard to Read

This goes to heart of the primary issue facing the designers of Web pages: content versus format. Originally the plan was for HTML documents to have content only, and the browser was to provide all formatting according to the reader's preferences. However, as time has gone on, designers have aquired methods to overcome or supercede the user's settings. This can result in more readable pages, inconvenience for the reader, or even sometimes unreadable pages.

I have attempted to remedy this somewhat by allowing Internet Explorer users to select between a few different styles, in order that you might chose an appearance of the page that suits you best. Click on the image,   when it appears in a sermon to access this feature. Unfortunately this feature only works with Internet Explorer.

The Type is Too Small to Read

My procedure has been to have the font size set at "medium." There are just so many different platforms, monitor sizes and resolutions, and other variables in play, that I feel it would cause too may problems otherwise.

To increase the font size that you see in your browser:

For Netscape 4:
Click on View, then Increase Font Size.
For Netscape 3:
Click on Options, then General Preferences. Then click on the Fonts tab, and the "Choose font..." button. Increase the font size as you desire, then click "OK."
For Internet Explorer 4:
click on the "A" button on the toolbar, or else View, Fonts.
For Internet Explorer 5:
click on View, then Text Size.

To override the font style and font size settings: (This will apply to everything you view with your browser.)

If you have Netscape 4:

click on Edit, then Preferences. Then click on Fonts, under Appearances. Choose an appropriate font and size, and click on "Use my default fonts, overriding document fonts."
For Internet Explorer 4:
click on View, Internet Options. Then choose the General tab, and click the "Accessibilty..." button. Check the "Ignore font size" and "Ignore font style" boxes, then click OK.
For Internet Explorer 5:
click on Tools, Internet Options. Then choose the General tab, and click the "Accessibilty..." button. Check the "Ignore font size" and "Ignore font style" boxes, then click OK.

You can also download special fonts that are easier to read. One useful font is GeoSlab703, available for free at the Will-Harris site. You would install it using the Accessibility settings, as above.

Finally, I find it much easier to read long documents, such as sermons, by either printing them out (Plan A), or reading the PDF document (Plan B).
